Lie to Me

This week I am going to talk about a new TV series which I just started to follow, Lie to Me. I just started to follow it, so there maybe are some mistakes in my introduction.

Lie to Me focus on the interrogation part of the investigation. The main character, Dr. Cal Lightman, founded a group in order to help the investigators by applying psychology. They reached the truth of the cases by looking at the victim’s body language and facial action. By these two things, he could tell whether the victim was lying or not.

Although I am not familiar with this TV series, I still want to recommend this TV series to you. I was fascinated by it after I first watched the series. I think the author of the series must spend a lot of time on this series. By those episodes which I watched, I could tell that the plot of every episode looks wonderful to me. I think I will spend some time to watch a season or two.

Drop Dead Diva

This week I am going to talk about Drop Dead Diva.

It is not really a criminal series. It is actually a series about the court (法庭). The plot of the series may look pretty absurd to some of you, but I think it is still a good series to spend time on.

The plot is like this. A beautiful female model died, but the angel accidentally let the girl’s soul go into another dead body which belonged to a fat female lawyer, Jane Bingum. As Jane revived, Jane’s life kept goes on, and Deb Dobkins, the female model, lived in Jane’s body and disguised as that she is the real Jane.

The series focus on what happens in the courtroom. Jane, as a lawyer, will first collect the evidence. Then, she will make a strategy to the debate. As usual, the main character is always the strongest, so she seldom loses.

I like this series a lot. I like the atmosphere when they start to argue in the court. Which I like the most is when they try to persuade the jury, they try anything to win the lawsuit.

Law and Order

This week’s topic is Law and Order.

This series is talking about the relationship between the police and the prosecutors (檢察官), which the police represents the order, and the prosecutors represent the law.

Actually, Law and Order is not just a TV series. Law and Order is a franchise. There are some subtitles following behind the Law and Order, such as UK, special victims unit, criminal intent, etc.

The original Law and Order goes like this. A criminal case happens as usual. Unlike other series, it focus on the interrogation part. After the investigation, the story continues in the court. The debate between the prosecutor and the suspect’s lawyer begins. In the end, the episode ends in the judgment by the judge.

In the other series of the Law and Order franchise, each series has its own characteristic. For example, the UK has another law system which differs from the US, so there are a lot fun to compare two series. The special victims unit focus on the victims who are the girls being raped or children being domestic violated.

I like the debate between the prosecutor and the lawyer. Both of them have their own strategy. The defense and the offense between them is the most charming part to me.

Castle

This week I am going to talk about Castle.

This TV series is very different from other series. I think it is more proper to consider as a romantic series which happens in a police station than to consider as a criminal series. Unlike other series which focus on the criminal cases, the TV series Castle focus on the story of the main character, Castle.

Castle is a detective novelist, which has a crush on the young police officer, Kate. In order to get to know her more, he gets into the police station as a consultant and starts to write a series of novel which the main character is Kate. By the time passing, Castle and Kate have great chemistry as each other’s partner. Finally, at the start of season 5, they are in relationship with each other.

Castle is a humorous guy. He sometimes will pop up some absurd ideas about the cases due to his novelist identity. Although he seems not quite reliable, he still helps a lot in solving criminal cases.

Kate is much more reliable than Castle. She is the youngest female investigator in the NYPD (New York Police Department) history. She is a successful woman in her career. She is quite responsible and devoted to her job. There is something mysterious about Kate’s background.......

If you want to know more, just start to follow this TV series. It won’t let you disappoint.

NCIS

This week I am going to introduce NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service).

Unlike the series I introduced last week, it is pretty same to the CSI. How they solve the cases follows the common sense about the procedures which the police does.

I think there is only one little difference than other series. That is the victim are all from the navy. That is why the series name is called NCIS.

Although there is no big difference between NCIS and others, it still very worth watching. The characters all have a bright individuality. 

The boss of the team, Gibbs, is pretty charming to me. He has his own rule and principle on how he does his job.

Another character who I liked a lot is Abby. She works in the crime lab in the team. Although her style is often too edgy to me, I am still fascinated by her brilliance and her purity.

I think it is a good series for me to kill the time. Unlike some other series, I think NCIS is much easier to watch. It doesn’t give me a heavy heart.

Criminal Minds

This week I am going to talk about Criminal Minds.

It differs itself from the other series by focusing on the mental status of the convict.

The institution which take responsibility to these cases is called as Behavior Analysis Unit from the FBI.

When the investigation starts, the evidence collecting process is inevitable.

Then, they will start to analyze all kinds of evidence, such as the identity of the victims, the place where the case happens, the way how the convict murder the victims, etc., In order to analyze what characteristic the convict has.

By the characteristic they analyzed and the computer, they can catch the convict in a perfect way.

There are seven people in the Behavior Analysis Unit. Some are good at negotiation, some are good at computer searching, and some are extremely smart that can help a lot in the cases. Each one of them are good at some particular field to solve the cases.

I want to talk about one episode which impressed me a lot.

The victims were abandoned by the convict. There are some common situation on the victims’ bodies, like they are all malnutrition due to no eating, and all having dislocation on the shoulder and hip, which is quite absurd.

Then, they found out that the convict only focus on particular looking male and female.

Eventually, the BAU caught the convict, who is addicted to his father’s puppet show. He wanted to replay the puppet show his father plays to the audiences, but the puppets are broken. Because of this reason, he caught boys and girls to make them into the puppet’s looking. This episode really impressed me a lot in all kinds of meanings.

Body of Proof

This week I am going to talk about Body of Proof.

As usual, Body of Proof is a TV series about criminal cases, but it focus on the autopsy (驗屍) procedure, which differs it from others.

How they solve the cases: When they get a case, they were interested with the body. There is a lot of evidence to find on a body. The skin, the muscle, the skeleton can also be a great sources of evidence. Any little difference can be the key to solve the cases.

Character: There are two medical analyzers Megan Hunt, the main character, and Kate Murphy. Two assistants, three investigators are also in these series.

Megan Hunt: The main character. A medical analyzer. Used to be a surgeon(外科醫生), but accidentally killed a patient on the surgery table, and retired from a surgeon with guilty. After that she became a medical analyzer for the criminal cases. She used to have one marriage and has a daughter. In the series, there are pretty much plot talking about the relationship between she and her daughter, due to their bad relationship before. She tried to strike a balance between her career and her private life.

I think that this series is very worth-seeing. The professional scenes are pretty true because they invited a professional to look after their procedure while doing autopsy. It also has a lot of descriptions of emotion in the series, which sometimes can touch my heart.

CSI (Crime Scene Investigation)

This week I will start with the most famous TV series-----CSI.

CSI is mainly about the police department in the cities, such as NY, Miami, Las Vegas, and LA.
It has produced 15 seasons.
Besides the criminal cases, there are also some special relationship happening between the investigators. It is also a spot to focus on.

How does it works in an episode?

First, it will start with a murder case.

Then, the investigators will go to the crime scene to collect evidences.

After that, they will start a lot of experiment to find out the suspect, such as mass spectrum, ballistic tests (彈道分析), bloodstain pattern analysis (血跡噴濺分析), etc.

At the same time, some police will interrogate (偵訊) the suspect and analyze their motivation and feelings against the victim, in order to realize the details of the case.

At the end, the happy ending comes out. The police get the bad guy, and the victim’s family feel being comfort.

How do TV series attract me?

        In my leisure time, I like to sit in the couch and watch some TV series. I prefer to watch some TV series about crime. I think it is interesting to discuss about the dark side of humanity. Also, at the same time, I can learn something about forensic science which interests me a lot. So, in the future I'm going to focus on some TV series about crimes. I'm going to give some short introduction about some series I might talk about later in my blogger.
     
       CSI(Crime Scene Investigation)
       The most well-known TV series about the police and the crime.

        NCIS(Naval Criminal Investigative Service)

        A special system that is different from the normal system. It focus on the crime which is associated with navy.

        Castle

        A series that tells a story about a detective fiction novelist helps the police to solve the crime.

       There is a lot of series that I want to introduce to you guys, such as Criminal Minds, Law and Order, Lie to me, Drop Dead Diva etc. Hope you will enjoy it and also hope I can share all of the things that I want to talk about with you guys.
